Shaw Industries Group, Inc. Statement of Environmental Policy
Shaw Industries Group, Inc. and its subsidiaries (collectively, "Shaw") is firmly committed to providing industry leadership in environmental performance and sustainability. Through the establishment of an Environmental Management System (EMS), Shaw will continually improve its operations and activities and set progressive environmental goals that aim to minimize our impact on the environment.
Acknowledging our responsibility to the environment, we will adhere to the following policy practices:
| Shaw will comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations and other policy practices and programs as appropriate for the corporation that provide a strong foundation for environmental initiatives hat extend beyond compliance. | |
| Shaw will strive to continually reduce waste and prevent pollution, including the reuse and recycling of water streams and the redesign of our products and processes. | |
| Shaw will seek alternative sources of energy and strive to develop closed-loop technologies that use post consumer products as production process inputs. | |
| Shaw will communicate these policy commitments to our employees, our contractors and other key stakeholders. This policy will be made available to regulatory agencies, the public or others interested parties upon request. |
Shaw's Corporate Objectives
Our corporate environmental objectives are summarized by focusing on three areas. These are reductions in solid waste created per unit manufactured, reductions in energy expended per unit manufactured, and reductions in water usage.
Commercial Division Targets and Objectives
Each manufacturing plant within the commercial division has set specific environmental targets and objectives for improvement. These targets and objectives are listed by plant below:
Plant 13
Reduce compactor waste being sent to the landfill by 75%.
Reduce waste water leaving the dyeing process by 75%.
Reduce city water usage by 50%.
Plant 15
Reduce tile cutting waste sent to the landfill by 25%.
Implement a program to reduce and recycle the use of office wastes.
Reduce the potential for storm water pollution and soil contamination from scrap metal.
Reduce the amount of fiber waste going to the landfill by 30%.
Reduce the amount of hazardous waste generated.
Plant 67
Reduce the amount of finishing oil discharged in space dye waste water by 90%.
Implement a recycling program for office waste (paper, cans, plastic bottles) during 2006.
Change to water-based, environmentally friendly cutting oil (blade coolant) for all metal saw applications beginning in January 2006.
Plant Z
Reduce nonrenewable energy consumption by 9%.
Reduce dye house water consumption by 10%.
Reduce solid waste by 50%.
