What is Design?
Design is an artistic outline intended to create unique and efficient spaces for both the client and the patrons who use them. Design allows for a variety of functional styles that respond to the aesthetic values of the surrounding community.
How is Design best illustrated through the project?
The owner of this project requested a completely new look, something unique and eye-catching for the city of Charlotte. The design chosen is described as comfortable contemporary with a minimalist look, incorporating sleek lines, cool colors and dark wood tones. Everything from the dazzling beaded wall coverings to the modern flooring gives this restaurant the total package.
Biggest Design Challenge?
Our biggest design challenge for Sonoma was the working constraints of a high-rise building with low ceilings and limited access to utilities (the restaurant is located on the first floor of The Bank of America building in uptown Charlotte). We incorporated sophisticated fabrics and unique lighting with glass walls and sleek cool-colored flooring to create the appearance of a bigger space.
What made it Innovative or Unique?
The owner requested something fresh and new for Charlotte. Given this direction, we were able to incorporate modern details throughout the space. Glass walls are used to separate the private dining room, providing spectacular views of the wine room.
How did Design make a difference?
The success of the restaurant illustrates the impact of our design. Sonoma has been mentioned several times in local magazines as being one of the most luxurious restaurants in town for a complete dining experience.
