Environmental Leadership
The introduction of EcoWorx was a first for the carpet industry, an alternative to conventional PVC backing for carpet tile. EcoWorx is produced with less embodied energy, performs equally or greater than PVC, and can be completely recycled into more backing, which caught the eye of the Environmental Protection Agency. In 2003, the EPA recognized Shaw with its Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award, honoring businesses and individuals who have discovered innovative ways to reduce pollution and use chemistry to improve the environment.
